And whenever kids of her friends or family lose a tooth, their parents call Destinie – a.k.a. the Tooth Fairy.
“I spray their tooth fairy money with hair glitter and the kids always think it’s the coolest thing in the world that their parents have the Tooth Fairy’s phone number.”
And, in case you didn’t know, being the Tooth Fairy is all about love (and glittery money, of course!)
“I love teeth. I’m obsessed with mine,” Destinie said. “You’re going to laugh at me, but I also love tutus, bows and sparkles. If I was in a room with nobody around and I could put on a tutu, bows and sparkles and dance around, that would make my day so much happier!”
That’s not to say that her days aren’t already happy. Destinie said she loves spending her days working as a dental assistant at Dental Depot’s West OKC office.
“I tell people all the time that I’m super blessed,” she said. “I get to work with my best friend, a great doctor, and I do something I love. I don’t just go to work.”
“[Dental Depot] is really my home away from home,” Destinie continued. “It’s a family and we all take care of each other.”
But for Destinie, taking care of people extends to her patients, as well. She fully invests in her patients and she likes to do whatever she can to help them feel more comfortable, including singing, making them laugh, and treating them with respect and understanding.
“I just let them know, ‘I’m gonna sing to you – not well, but I am,’” she said with a laugh. “Dr. Keaster [whom Destinie regularly assists] hums along. It gives them something else to focus on besides the sounds of the dental tools.”
Destinie also likes to help her patients fully understand their treatment plans and payment options.
“I break it down for them,” she said. “I don’t want them to hurt and I let them know that. If they’re worried about payment, I help them understand all of the options available to them.”
But Destinie said that the most rewarding part of her job is helping her patients who are afraid of dental work.
“When I have a patient who comes in super scared, but when they leave they are happy and they give me a big hug and tell me that because of me they’re not so scared to get [dental] work done anymore – that’s the most rewarding part of my job,” Destinie said.
Not only does she work full-time with Dental Depot, but she also is the mother of two daughters and an undergraduate student at Rose State College. With so much on her plate, Destinie said she handles life by taking every day ‘one step at a time.’
“Once I leave [the office], my day starts over,” she said.
May 2018 will mark 10 years as a dental assistant for Destinie, but she’s aiming even higher for her next ten years.
“I love what I do, but I want to be a dentist,” she said. “I want to be the one who fixes things.”
“One day, I will be the doctor.”
Destinie Wilson was nominated for Dental Depot Employee of the Month by Dr. Keaster, general dentist at the West OKC office:
“Destinie is a wonderful dental assistant! She is on time every day and always comes in with a smile and a laugh. She puts everyone around her in a better mood; you can tell that she loves her job! As a doctor, I never have to ask her for anything; she is always on top of it! Destinie makes my job so much easier. I have worked with tons of great people but I can’t think of anyone who embodies the term “employee of the month” more than Destinie Wilson.” – Austin Keaster DDS
Dental Depot is a locally owned and operated family company. As such, we believe that the incredible group of doctors, hygienists, assistants and staff that make up Dental Depot are more than their job titles; they’re members of our extended family. In our family, we like to recognize when someone goes above and beyond, living the Dental Depot values. This August, we are proud to shine a spotlight on Employee of the Month Destinie Wilson.
